Loft conversions and small house extensions are now covered by a Permitted Development Cert and do not usually now require Planning Permission.

Lawful Development Certificate for Loft Conversions etc.

The advantage of this type of application is that if the designs fall within the pre-agreed limits for a permitted development  you are almost certain to get  it approved, even if objections are raised by neighbours.

Most council’s planning departments will take between 6 - 8 weeks to issue the P D certificate.
